Creating a Class Wiki
Here I am answering some of the question I get with all the different innovative projects that I am involved with. Here we discuss the creation of class wiki's and why they are aa great idea. I also like utilizing blogs and keep a blog at http://eaglinar.blogspot.com/ and http://profeaglin.blogspot.com/ . In addtion to the various wiki's that I have started listed here;
http://classroomactivities.pbwiki.com/ - Practical classroom actvities
http://trailmaps.pbwiki.com/ - A site for parks and recreation
http://ucf-cet4583.pbwiki.com/ - Web Systems Design I and II class
http://cet4429.pbwiki.com/ - Applied Database II
http://ucf-sage.pbwiki.com/ - Service Architecture for Government Efficiency
http://ucf-rainfall.pbwiki.com/ - Rainfall Analysis Research
Why Create a Class Wiki ?
1. A class wiki makes it very easy for you to organize and present class materials to students.
2. The wiki can be viewed from anywhere on any web browser making the class accessible.
3. You have full control of accessibility and also who can contribute.
4. You have the ability to make information and class information public.
How do I create the wiki ?
1. Go to the site pbwiki.com
2. Select to create a new (education) wiki and answer the questions.
3. Follow the instrutions.
What can I do with the class wiki?
1. Post class assignments (example http://ucf-cet4583.pbwiki.com/Summer+2008+-+Assignments )
2. Post class materials and lectures (example http://ucf-cet4583.pbwiki.com/CET+4583+Lectures )
3. Easily edit and arrange the class materials.
4. Have other persons (GA's and other instructors) assist in the materials and also share materials.
Other nice features
1. Ability to create templates for common pages (like lectures and assignments)
2. Ability to easily edit pages to fix items or add material.
3. Changes or additions are instantly available to students.
