Classroom Survivor Game
This is an ice-breaker exercise for the students that will get them to talk and also has a game aspect to it – similar to a survivor game.
Materials: Note-cards for each student in the class (number the cards and tell students to remember the number of the card they filled out)
Each student is given a numbered note-card and told to list certain information. You can substitute any types of questions here for your questions;
1. A single concern of theirs. Concerns can range from big concerns (What to do about global warming) to small concerns (Where to go for lunch).
2. Their favorite something, can be anything from color to food to movie.
3. One to two words describing your personality.
Students should be reminded to remember the number on their card.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students then give their cards back to the instructor. The cards are shuffled and then handed back out to the students.
The objective is to communicate with the other students in the class to determine whose card you have. To eliminate someone from the game you must find the person whose card you have. Once you eliminate someone you can claim any cards they have and continue eliminating other students. Students eliminated can still play – however, they cannot win.
The winning student is the one who collects the most cards during the period of play.
Variations: Have the students list answers to yes or now questions; such as Have you ever been snow skiing, do you own a pet, etc... and modify the rules so that students can only ask one question of another student and play the game round robin style - where each student is allowed to ask one question of any other student - and each student gets one turn per round.
Questions for this style:
Have you ever been snow skiing?
Do you own a pet ?
Do you play any musical instruments ?
Did you talked to your parents yesterday ?
Are you from Florida ?
Do you own a mountain bike ?
Did you played any video games this week ?
Do you have any homework do that you have not completed ?
